David Jackson Fair's Obituary
85, of Dallas, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at home surrounded by his family. Jack was born May 24, 1923 in Dallas, Texas to William Wren and Eva Kirby Fair. The youngest of six children, he was born and raised in the family home, built in 1916, which was one of the first homes in East Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood. His father, who was Director of Passenger Service for Texas and Pacific Railway provided Jack with one of his favorite childhood memories when he took him by train to see SMU play in the 1936 Rose Bowl. Jack graduated from North Dallas High School and attended SMU where he studied engineering. Throughout his life, however, he remained a devoted University of Texas Longhorn football fan. IN 1943 he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy and trained as a pilot during World War II. In 1944, Jack married his high-school sweetheart, Catherine Danna with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage last August. Jack worked as a sales representative for Honeywell before starting the D. Jack Fair Company, which designed controls and meters to be used by food manufacturing companies. His customers included many bakeries throughout the US. Jack will be remembered with great respect by his friends in the Belmont Group where for 38 years he counseled thousands of Friends of Bill W. to help others humbly live their lives guided by the 12 steps. Jack is survived by his wife Catherine; and 4 daughters; Virginia Fair Hale and husband Kay of Carrollton, Patricia Fair Wright and husband Charles of Gunter, Catherine Fair Womack and husband Daniel of The Woodlands, and Jacqueline Fair Isaly and husband David of Houston, grandchildren; Bradley Seal of Scottsdale, AZ, Megan Womack of NYC,NY, Brett Womack of The Woodlands, Jackson Isaly, and William Isaly, both of Houston, numberous nieces and nephews, and one remaining brother-in-law. He is preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings, and many dear friends. Our father will be greatly missed for his quiet wisdom, patience, and immeasurable love for his wife and daughters. Visitation will be Friday, December 12, from 6-8 pm at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland, Saturday, December 13, at 12:30 pm. Bishop Thomas Hooker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army. The family wishes to thank the VNA Hospice group, Charles Skaggs and Charles Nichols.
