David Lynn Gibson's Obituary
David Lynn Gibson, 75, passed away on July 2, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1950, at Fort Hood, Texas, to LeDoyle Gibson and Edith Annemarie Kuhn Gibson.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Cheralyn “Cheri” Gibson; his sister, Viola Easley, and brother-in-law, Randy Easley; his brothers, Mackie Gibson and Mike Gibson and his wife, Rowena; his sons, David Gibson and Joe Gibson; and his daughters, Jennifer Gibson and Linda Nalls. He was a proud grandfather to Robby Thompson, Felicia Gibson, Justin Christian and his wife, Allison, Trey David Nalls, Lucas Nalls, and Cate Gibson. He was also blessed with three great-grandsons, Talin and Grayson Desio & Hunter Christian, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
David retired from the City of Dallas Water Utilities after more than 31 years of dedicated service. Throughout his life, he was known for his servant’s heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched the lives of many.
A faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church of Athens, David actively served his church family in countless ways. He enjoyed cooking for the men's breakfast gatherings, caring for his yard, and fixing the little things that needed attention. He found pleasure in watching James Bond movies, comedies, and classic Westerns. One of his greatest joys was shopping for and giving gifts to others, simply to bring a smile to their faces.
David was also known for his jokes—some that might make you groan—but they always had a way of brightening your day. More than anything, he had a special gift for making people feel loved, valued, and appreciated.
David’s favorite Bible verse was John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
David leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his family and friends find comfort in knowing that his life reflected the love of Christ and that his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
