David Wootten Harmon's Obituary
David W. Harmon, 90, of Dallas, Texas, died January 18, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. He was born September 11, 1927 to Charles Harmon, Sr. and Helen Wootten Harmon in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.He married Dorothy Lu Durham Harmon on June 1, 1959 in Hereford, Texas and enjoyed 24 years of marriage before she died unexpectedly. He married Lanelle Ewing Harmon on December 23, 1985 in Dallas, Texas, and they recently celebrated 32 years of marriage.He worked in HR for the aerospace industry for over 35 years, ultimately retiring from E-Systems in 1992 as Director of Corporate Compensation in Dallas, Texas.David was an active volunteer in youth soccer organizations, the Boy Scouts, and various neighborhood service organizations over the years.He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1945 through August 1946 as a Naval Seaman, First Class, after which he joined the USNR while in college. He was awarded the Victory Medal in November, 1947.He is survived by his wife, Lanelle Harmon of Dallas, Texas and his children from his first marriage, Leigh Harmon Price of Plano and Michael B. Harmon of Dallas, Texas.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lu Durham Harmon in 1983; his brother, Charles Harmon Jr. of Garland Texas; and his sisters, Martha Wells of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Ann Sweeney of Seattle, Washington.One highlight of David’s volunteer activities was chauffeuring Santa Claus to visit the Sparkman neighborhood children several times in the 1970’s. He was an avid University of Texas Longhorn football fan, and enjoyed season tickets for several years. In his retirement he became active in hiking, photography, and building model airplanes from World War II.A graveside service will be on Tuesday, January 23, at 2 PM in the Garden of Trinity at Restland Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243.
