David E. Kimbrell died April 8, 2023, at his home in Garland Texas. He was 75 years old.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Byers; son-in-law, Darrell; grandson, Samuel; and granddaughter, Katherine. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharron Hamrick (Ronnie) and Leandra Kimbrell, and will be missed by his nieces, nephews, many friends, and extended family.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Virginia Kimbrell, his son, David Lee Kimbrell, his parents, Elizabeth and Bill Compton, one sister and three stepbrothers.
David grew up in Dallas and Mesquite, Texas. He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam era, serving as a communications specialist in Germany.
David, known as Papa to his grandchildren, enjoyed family gatherings, fast cars, long-winded tales, and a juicy cheeseburger. He loved animals of all kinds, especially his two shih tzu pups, Daisy and Bubba, and his cat, Scooter. He was a life-long Dallas Cowboys fan and never lost faith in his team. No holiday meal was complete without his famous devilled eggs and banana pudding.
He adored his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren, always active at their sporting events, musical performances, and celebrating their academic and life achievements. He instilled in them a love of music, video games and how to spin a good yarn.
He was a kind, generous, loyal, welcoming man who loved mightily and stood strong in his faith.
Memorial services will be held graveside on Monday, April 17 at 11am at Restland Memorial Park in the Wildwood Gardens section in Dallas, Texas.
