David Alan McCollum's Obituary
David Alan McCollum was born in Dallas, TX on March 11, 1947, to Mack and Rose McCollum. He departed this Earth on March 15, 2026, at the age of 79. After graduating from Bryan Adams High School in 1965, David enlisted into the army. While serving in Vietnam he received several medals and badges. After serving, he returned home to meet the love of his life, Cheryl Kay Watson, where they wed on August 24, 1972, in Dallas. They settled down in the White Rock neighborhood and welcomed two daughters, Kimberly and Ashley. After 15 years, they were given the opportunity to adopt a son, Chris Moses, which made their family complete.
David was the proud business owner of McCollum Automotive off of Ross Ave. After 47 years, he made the hard decision to close shop to care for his sick wife. While hanging up his tools, he still kept his love of racing, rebuilding, and repairing cars close to heart.
David greatly enjoyed his newfound retirement. He conjured many specialties in the kitchen, while keeping Gunsmoke on replay 24 hours a day. He would occasionally sneak in an episode of Sanford and Son or the Three Stooges but never missed a Nascar or Daytona race.
David is preceded in death by his parents, WG and Nell Rose, his wife of 48 years Cheryl Kay, and his sister Elizabeth “Libby” Rudd.
He is survived by his daughter Kim and Craig of Mesquite, his daughter Ashley and Mikey of Farmersville, and his son Chris and Pam of New York. He was the proud Pop to 7 grandchildren: Nicholas (Hollie), Skylar (Elijah), Maci, Alex, Ashton, Breanna (Tim) and Brayden, and 4 great grandsons. David is also survived by his brother Cookie (Keith) and Margaret of Forney, who he enjoyed many nights of racing cars and getting into trouble with on Farola Dr.
Graveside services will be held at Restland Funeral Home on March 20th at 3pm in the Garden of the Gospel. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him but never forgotten.
