David Henry Mueller's Obituary
David was born in Austin, Texas where his father was studying at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. His parents were Oscar Worrell “Pat” Mueller and Mary Brannon Drane. He grew up in many small towns in south Texas where his father served various churches. When he was 12, the family moved to New Jersey so that Pat could go to Princeton Seminary in Christian Education. After that they lived in Corpus Christi and Fort Worth where his father served larger churches. David was the oldest with two brothers, Michael and Larry, and one sister, Susan.
He excelled in school and fell in love with Texas Christian University which he was determined to attend even though it did not have a major in what he wanted to study. Thus began a lifelong commitment to TCU. After he graduated, he went on to get a Master’s in computer science from the University of Illinois. He returned to Texas as quickly as he could and settled in the Dallas area. He worked 40 years for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. The early years were in a department that did database development for researchers. David then transferred to the Department of Student and Alumni Affairs where he completed his career.
He married the love of his life, Sara Jo Hubbard, in 1978 and together they had one daughter, JoAnne Elizabeth who married Kevin Turner in 2014 and now lives close in Richardson.
David loved music, especially classical. He was a tenor/ baritone and sang in the church choir everywhere he lived. He started playing the flute in elementary school and continued throughout his life. He was an intelligent, kind, and thoughtful person. Many of his activities related to church. He spent a lot of years being a sponsor for the Synod Youth Workshop in Tulsa in the summers even when there was no youth from his church attending. He also taught Sunday School from nursery school age to high school including confirmation and sponsored many youths as they went thru confirmation. He loved to read, especially history, biographies, mysteries, and science fiction. He taught himself how to crochet in high school and often donated baby blankets to the NICU at Texas Health, Plano. When he married Sara Jo, he knew that Girl Scouts would become a big part of his life and he volunteered in many ways.
He outlived his parents and his brother Larry and is survived by his wife, daughter and her husband and his other brother and sister and 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Services will be at his church, West Plano Presbyterian, on Saturday, December 7th at 11:00 AM.
Memorials would be greatly appreciated and can be sent to West Plano Presbyterian Church, Texas Christian University Band fund or Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
