David Crosby Parnell's Obituary
David was born on February 10, 1934 in Shreveport, LA and passed away on January 14, 2022 in Dallas, TX. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX. He was a great lover of dogs and had at least one or more dogs as a companion through most of his life. He also enjoyed gardening, including vegetable gardening, planting of Dutch bulbs, with daffodils being his favorite, and tending to his many rose bushes. Reading was also a favorite hobby, mostly focusing on sports and history related books, and in later years he thoroughly enjoyed the White House Association journals which depicted certain eras and styles of living, including the gardens of the White House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Operation Kindness in Carrollton, TX in memory of David C. Parnell.
He attended Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Co-Chairman of Housing Committee Southern Association of Student Council Meeting, ROTC which included Squad Leader, Captain, Battalion Staff, and Major, Battalion Executive Officer, Manager of First Student Store, Science and History Award Winner, Member of Boys Debate Club and Secretary of same, Boys Debate Team, part of planning committee for convention of Southern Association of Student Councils, DeMolay membership and attended 3 DeMolay State Conventions, Senior play cast member as father of the leading lady. David graduated first in class academically from Texas A&M University with a B.S. Chemical Engineering Degree, Member of Student Senate and Secretary of same, was a Ross Volunteer, First Platoon Sergeant, Volunteer Drill Team, participated and led Ross Volunteers in Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans, LA while at Texas A&M. Graduated with a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, taught Freshman Advanced Algebra and Freshman Trigonometry at University of Texas in Austin.
David married Barbara Anne Bisset on August 16, 1957, and Barbara passed away on January 24, 2010. They had four children all of whom were born in Baton Rouge, LA – Donna Kay Parnell McDonald, David Paul Parnell, Janis Lynn Parnell and John Robert Parnell, and his granddaughter, Lillian Sedona McDonald who was born in Dallas, TX. David was predeceased by his mother, Ina Crosby Parnell; his father, William Rogers Parnell; his sister, Marilyn Parnell Folger; and his brother William Robert Parnell; David is survived by his brother, Jon Lee Parnell; his brother, Ronald Patrick Parnell, his 4 children and granddaughter mentioned above.
He was the co-inventor of two U.S. Patents for isoprene purification and butyl latex; taught seminars and classes, delivered technical papers and designed sulfur recovery units on four different continents – North America, South America, Europe and Asia, including Puerto Rico; Trinidad; Toronto, Canada; Oahu, Hawaii; Anacortes, WA; Saskatchewan, Canada; Newfoundland, Canada; Hoquiam, WA; Romania; Kazakhstan; Gothenburg, Sweden; Frankfort, Germany; London, U.K.; Haifa, Israel; Mexico; Venezuela; South Korea; and the Netherlands; representative at annual meetings of the National Petroleum Refining Association; designed 6 technical crossword puzzles for use in training. David was a summer intern at Construction Machinery Corp. in Shreveport, LA; T.L. James Co. (Barksdale Air Force Base) in Bossier City, LA; United Gas Research Lab in Shreveport, LA; Esso Refinery (now Exxon) in Baton Rouge, LA. He was subsequently employed by Esso Refinery (now Exxon) in Baton Rouge, LA; Ford, Bacon & Davis in Dallas, TX; Coastal Chemical in Houston, TX; Sulfur Operation Support in Houston, TX; Betz, Converse, Murdock in Dallas, TX; Co-founder of The Professional Associates (TPA) in Dallas, TX; Co-founder of Lexington Group International (LGI) in Dallas, TX; Consultant for LGI in Dallas, TX through 2013.
David was a Sunday school teacher and Training Union teacher at several Baptist churches in Baton Rouge, LA and Dallas, TX; Church Treasurer at 2 different Baptist churches; Finance Committee member at 2 different Baptist churches. Basketball, baseball, softball, football Official for youth high school and adult teams in Baton Rouge, LA and Dallas, TX.
