David H. Pollard's Obituary
David “Grandad” Harrison Pollard of Rowlett, Texas, who’s remembered as the life of the party, his nurturing devotion to his family and his love of George Jones, died Friday, August 12, 2022 at Medical City Dallas. He was 77. He was born September 4, 1944, the second child of Virgil Harrison Pollard and Alice Louise Grindle.
In 1967 he married his high school sweetheart, Sherrie Dianne (Welch) Pollard, who he celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary with on July 1. Their four kids, Kim (Princess), John, Staci (Precious), and Courtney (Peanut), were the light of his life. His kids would go on to give him 13 grandchildren, which is how he became known to everyone as “Grandad.” He served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1964-1970 and would later receive a degree from Eastfield College in business management. He spent much of his life working in construction management across the country.
With a big family came large gatherings, especially Christmas. The downstairs living room would fill with gifts as Nana and him would go all out to ensure everyone had plenty to open. Grandad was adept at working with his hands and some of the most memorable presents were the ones he made, such as dresser drawers, customized toy boxes or vanity sets.
His infectious personality lit up the room and ensured everyone was laughing with him (or sometimes at him). Grandad loved the country music singer George Jones (he also looked just like him) so much that when Jones died, the family held a celebration of his life specifically for Grandad. Many of his grandkids can remember singing along with him to “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” in the car.
The dedication he gave to his wife, children and grandkids, along with his work ethic, served as a role model for every man who entered the family. Grandad will always be a tough act to follow.
He is survived and deeply missed by his wife and life-long partner, Sherrie Pollard; his children, Kimberly Dianne (Pollard) Seipp, Johśun De Pollard, Staci Denise (Pollard) Hubbard, and Courtney Dawn (Pollard) Jaeckle; his grandchildren, Skye David Seipp, Travis David Pollard, Elijah Edward Seipp, Marcus John Pollard, Peyton Rylee Hubbard, Kally RyAnne Jaeckle, Andrew Michael Pollard, Bailee Dianne Hubbard, Ashley Nichole Pollard, Preslee (Romie) Dawn Hubbard, Tenely Dawn Jaeckle, Adalee Nace Jaeckle, Jett Wayne Jaeckle; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. We will all miss him forever.
The family will hold a visitation on Wednesday, August 17 from 6 - 8 p.m. and a funeral Friday, August 19 at 10 a.m. to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Open Arms Family Outreach, on PayPal @openarmsoutreachdfw, which was founded by his niece, Tiffany Jenkins, and provides coats to children in need.
