Dawn Ola Manuel's Obituary
DAWN OLA MANUEL passed away peacefully on July 22, 2011, at her home in Carrollton, Texas, after her undaunted battle against cancer. Dawn was born May 3, 1938 to Blanche and LeRoy Manuel in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dawn and her brother, Lee, were the first set of twins born in St. Anthony’s Hospital. After graduation from St. Petersburg High School in 1958, Dawn was employed at West Coast Title Company and then at Florida Power Corporation. She then moved to Dallas, Texas, and was employed at Ceco Door Products. She was promoted to the position of Plant Manager and was responsible for the overall operation of that entire facility. She had the honor of being the first female Plant Manager for that corporation. She held that position until retirement in 2001. Her hobbies included extensive travel, the all outdoors, listening to music both classical and jazz, cooking, sports, working on and repairing computers, and having a love of animals. Even after her diagnosis of terminal cancer, Dawn’s spontaneous love for life, never-ending generosity and compassion for others never faltered and these traits became even more evident. Her calm, cheerful presence brought out the best in others. She taught us all how to accept the things in life that we cannot change and live fully in the present moment. Dawn was the most incredible sister, aunt, and friend anyone could ever wish for. We will miss her warmth, tenderness and her beautiful smile as well as her wit and humor. Dawn will continue to be that beautiful, powerful glowing presence in our lives. Dawn is survived by her twin brother Lee, her brother Bill(Helen), nieces, nephews, great niece, great nephews, and an unending host of friends near and far. Dawn loved her family and friends, and her passing leaves an enormous void in our lives. Interment will be at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, it was Dawn’s wish that a prayer be said for her. AUTUMN RAIN Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die…..
