Dean Lowndes Evans' Obituary
Dean Lowndes Evans went to be with the Lord Friday morning, September 25, 2015, at the age of 88. Dean was born in East Orange, New Jersey, on November 16, 1926. He was the middle child of three boys born to Gertrude and Clarence Evans. During the middle of WWII, Dean served in the Essex County, NJ, Junior Cavalry Troop, one of the last mounted troops in the country, before joining the US Navy Air Corps toward the end of the war. Following the war Dean graduated from Amherst College and moved to Texas to join the Home Insurance Company of Dallas for many years. He continued his insurance career with Great American Insurance Company for several more years. Dean pursued his entrepreneur interests as a partner of a fire and casualty insurance agency. Shortly following, he and a partner, Dwight Wright, acquired two Kwik Kopy print shops in Dallas. He eventually retired from his own business but continued to manage a friend’s Kwik Kopy shop well into his senior years in 2009. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Evans, on October 14, 1978. Their courtship included many dates at the Willow Bend Polo & Country Club in Plano, TX. An avid horseman all of his life, Dean never missed a chance to experience horses first hand whether it was at the State Fair of Texas or the Fort Worth Stock Show. Dean was a wonderful loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved, most of all, to spend time with his family. His hobbies included reading and watching westerns, listening to bagpipe music, and serving his church. Dean’s faith was exemplified by his decades of service at First Presbyterian of Richardson and most recently at Grace Presbyterian Church of Plano where he was a deacon and frequent usher.
