Deborah "Debbie" Kay Armstrong's Obituary
Deborah Kay Armstrong, 69, of Garland, TX, passed away on October 11, 2022 from cancer and the effects of chemo.
Debbie was born on November 30, 1952 to Gilbert and Mabel Magee in Dallas, TX. After graduating from Bryan Adams High School in 1970, she attended the University of North Texas and finished her degree in social work at the University of Texas at Austin. She then went on to work at Cherrington Nursery and was also a program director at the Harrington Retirement Home. Gardening was Debbie’s favorite and she eventually opened her own floral business called Secret Garden.
In 2006, Debbie opened up the Barnes and Nobles store at the Lincoln Park branch in Dallas. She became manager of the kids department and worked there for over 15 years. She loved storytelling and reading was her passion. Debbie was very creative in how she presented books to kids. She often dressed up to match the book she was reading for the day. Books like Where the Wild Things Are, Clifford, Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh were among her favorites. She loved helping children grow in their excitement for reading and learning. After she retired, she even volunteered one day a week.
Debbie was also a home-maker. In her prime years, you would often find her cooking, making pottery, gardening, taking care of her Adam, reading books, laughing, reminiscing about the good ole days and singing tunes. She loved the Bible and listening to hymns were her favorite as well. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
Debbie is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Magee, her mother, Mabel Magee and her husband, Steve Armstrong. She is survived by her sister Beverly Hirsch and her husband David and niece, Jenny, her brother, Keith Magee, her step children David and Erin Armstrong, her son Adam Cherrington and his wife Jevanna and 8 grandchildren; Timothy, James, Rachel, Katherine, Rhema, Ezra, Anna Kay and Olivia.
Services for Ms. Deborah Armstrong will be held Monday, October 17, 2022, at 2p in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
