Debra Alexander Moody's Obituary
Moody, Debra Alexander Moody was born June 9, 1955 in Dallas, Texas and passed away April 12, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. Debbie graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1973 and attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, where she belonged to the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Debbie was preceded in death by her loving father, John Thomas Alexander and brother, Thomas Randall “Randy” Alexander. Debbie is survived by her daughter Magen Moody Ramos; son-in-law, Neill Ramos; mother, Wanda Alexander; sister, Sheri Alexander; sister-in-law, Sharon Alexander; niece, Brandi Serwin; three nephews, Jonathan Alexander, Shane Serwin, Chad Alexander; great-nephew, Timothy Alexander; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Debbie’s immense capacity for kindness and strength will be a comfort to us all as we celebrate her life. She considered her greatest accomplishment, her daughter Magen Moody Ramos, her many friends and family, and her time spent enjoying the life that she so greatly built. Debbie was devoted to all in her life and proved this daily in selfless acts and the positive beauty that she saw in every turn along life’s journey. While she was incredibly humble and grateful for every blessing in her life, Debbie was courageous, passionate, and determined. While ensuring others received education, training, and opportunities before her own, she worked to accomplish career goals that exceeded even her own expectations. Debbie enjoyed traveling around the world, enjoying new cuisines, and spending her time enriching the lives of those around her. Through all of the challenges and daunting tasks that faced her; she loved the life that was given to her and was eager to start each day with contagious tenacity. With a philanthropic heart, Debbie volunteered with The American Red Cross while her husband, Daryl Moody, worked as a disaster action team lead. This role moved them from Texas, to Illinois, and back to Texas where she found her first and most humbling role working in a geriatric center. After a few years, Debbie and Daryl moved back to Dallas, Texas and welcomed their first and only child, Magen Annice Moody. While Debbie maintained her career, she found joy in taking active roles in Magen’s activities. Debbie was a Girl Scout leader, a trip chaperone, a school volunteer, and even started a scholarship at Magen’s middle school in honor of Daryl to help those who were unable to afford engagement in school sports and activities. Throughout Magen’s life, Debbie never missed one activity. Daryl passed away in 2000 and Debbie carried his memory through her and Magen’s life. Debbie was awarded numerous honors throughout her life and remained involved in various board positions, while raising Magen and taking on esteemed executive positions throughout the course of her career. Debbie underwent several operations and hurdled obstacles that could have prevented her from living the life that she so enjoyed; but nothing would prevent her determination and will from shining. Debbie was a survivor and fought battles that to most, were not possible. While zealous in her spirit and faith, Debbie lived each day knowing that she would join her Father in heaven when she was ready to do so. Although Debbie’s life on Earth has ceased, she will forever live each day with passion and grace that has been seeded in those left to carry on her legacy. Her life will be celebrated at 2:30 P.M. Saturday April 20, 2013 at Restland Memorial Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday April 19, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to The American Red Cross, Dallas Chapter.
