Debra Lea Schwartz's Obituary
Debra (Debbie) Lea Schwartz, a longtime Dallas resident, died peacefully at home on March 11th, 2023 after a prolonged illness. Debbie was born in Norman, Oklahoma on June 25, 1954. She grew up in
Oak Cliff, Texas, and graduated from David W. Carter High school in 1972. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Dallas Baptist College, she began her career as a Registered Nurse. She worked in various settings as an RN including the VA Hospital, Baylor University Medical Center, and with the Dallas County Health Department where she worked with marginalized and under served populations that brought her the most pride and joy as a nurse. Debbie was an avid music lover. She also enjoyed cooking and traveling (including Hawaii, Europe, Africa, and Tahiti.) Traveling by travel trailer to Oregon has a special place in her heart where her grandchildren live.
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Mary (Stephenson) Porterfield. She is survived by her husband of 31 years Robert C Schwartz Jr MD, her daughter Shelley Robertson of Dallas, and her stepchildren Karina Adams and spouse Darrell Adams of Portland, Oregon, Justin Schwartz, as well as two beloved granddaughters, Savannah and Sierrah Schwartz of Keizer, Oregon. She is also survived by her brothers Randy Porterfield of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kelly Porterfield of Fairview, Texas. Special thanks and acknowledgements go to 3 caring women who lovingly provided home health care to Debbie for the last 5 years of her life: Latasha Oldner, Angela Chalk, and LaToya Frazier.
Debbie was know for her out- ward beauty, compassion, empathy and kind heart. She will always be remembered for her love, her generosity and for her bubbly personality. She will be greatly missed by those who love her and were lucky enough to have been loved by her.
Memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 6th at 2 PM Restland Cemetery’s Wildwood
