Delbert R. Burke's Obituary
Delbert Roger Burke, 90, of Dallas, Texas died November 11th, 2017 in Dallas, Texas of natural causes. He was born on September 11th, 1927 to Marion H. Burke and Sophia J. Dries in Champaign, Illinois. He married Charlotte Ann Curless on June 24th, 1951 in Peoria, Illinois. He was an executive with Caterpillar Tractor Company for thirty-five years. He attended the University of Illinois and received his degree in engineering from Bradley University. He was a Mason of the 33rd degree, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as the Grand Master of the Lodge. He served in the Navy in 1946. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Johnson in Dallas, Texas, and his son, Douglas Burke in Tucson, Arizona. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Curless Burke. Del loved all sports, particularly baseball, where he played the position of shortstop briefly with the Chicago Cubs Farm Team. In later years, he played a lot of golf, and was a regular visitor to the Plano Recreational Center. He enjoyed gardening, and was organic before it was cool. Most of all, he loved family time, barbequing with the family at gatherings, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He always lead by example. Del loved the Lord, and was active in his Church serving on the Board of Trustees for many years. One of his favorite quotes was, “Preach the Gospel every day; if necessary use words.” He will be missed by all.
