Delbert Jackson Parris' Obituary
PARRIS, DELBERT JACKSON 93, was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 14, 2014 after a long illness. Born January 25, 1920 in Jacksonville, AL. Delbert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth McCalib Parris of Farmers Branch, TX; two sons, Stephen D. Parris and wife, Tina of DeRidder, LA and Stewart D. Parris of Pottsboro, TX; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Parris of Houston, TX; brothers, Wesley L. Parris, Sidney W. Parris; and sisters, Vanner Usery, Irene Morris, Audrey Vise, Betty Wheeler, Carolyn Easterwood, and Sandra Parris all of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Lee Parris and Ellen R. Hardy Parris; brother, Burl H. Parris; sisters, Inez Parris, Venita Bryant, and Doris Hicks. Delbert is a Veteran of World War II having served in New Guinea and the Philippines as an infantryman in the 31st Infantry Division. He also served in the army during the Korean War. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 17, 2014 at Restland Memorial Park. The family wishes to acknowledge the capable, skilled, and loving staff at Clyde Cosper Veteran’s Nursing Home of Bonham, TX for all of the support and care given. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
