Delbert E. Strickland's Obituary
Born on October 27, 1929 in Hamilton County, TX to Wesley and Laura Strickland. He passed away on August 27, 2008. Delbert is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Steve and Mark Strickland; step daughter, Roxanne Adcock; grandchildren, April and Kenneth; two great grandchildren; three nieces, Rhonda Cockrill, Terry Crow and Missy Hill. He had one sister, LaDell Hill. Delbert lived briefly in Bowie, TX but the family moved back to Central Texas where he graduated from Jonesboro High School at the age of 16. He then attended Tarleton College. He started out as a butcher in a small grocery store in Hamilton, and then later moved to the Dallas area for better jobs. Delbert developed diabetes and he lost his right leg and later his left foot from complications. Delbert was a very courageous man. Instead of letting it get him down and feeling sorry for himself when he could no longer work as a Meat Market Manager he went to Real Estate school and got his license. He was showing and selling houses before he was fitted with the prostheses, while on crutches and with only one leg.
