Delmar Joe Rogers Sr.'s Obituary
Delmar Joe Rogers, Sr., known as Del, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, friend and world class storyteller. He went to be with his Lord in the early hours of July 22, 2024. Born to Joyce and DS Rogers, in Houston, TX, on September 27, 1938, Del felt an early call to serve the Lord, which he did wholeheartedly for his entire life.
Del felt blessed to have met the love of his life, Judy, at the tender age of 17 when she walked in the front door of West Liberty Baptist Church where he was leading the singing. He proposed to Judy after only one date! That early blessing became an example of inspirational and enduring love that lasted for over 65 years (August would have made 66).
Shortly after graduating high school in Liberty, TX, Del and Judy married then headed to Baylor University where Del earned his Business Administration degree in 1962. While earning his degree he preached regularly at small Baptist churches in and around Waco.
While friends and family thought that Del was on his way to being a full-time Baptist minister, he felt God was calling him to a different path. This calling eventually led him to start Stewardship Enrichment, helping churches grow and expand the Kingdom of God without the burden of debt. Throughout his life, Del gave generously of his own time, talent and treasure to the countless school and ministry boards on which he served, including his service as a deacon for many years at First Baptist Church of Dallas.
Del’s energy and caring nature were infectious – he remembered everyone’s name, was always quick with a delightful joke or story, and he always put others' needs before his own.
His sincere love of people endeared him to many, but mostly to those who knew him best – his wife Judy, his sister Janet McClain, his three children, Scarlette Dillard, Del Rogers, Jr. and Paul Rogers as well as his 10 grandchildren, Jason Dillard, Dustin Dillard, Amanda Flagg, Trace Rogers, Layne Ashton Rogers, London
Beavers, Noah Rogers, Caleb Rogers, Abby Rogers & Daniel Rogers & 6 great grandchildren, Jace Beavers, Emerson Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Vivian Dillard, Wallace Dillard & Merle Flagg, all of whom he adored. Before he died, he was delighted to learn that another great grandchild is on the way!
After semi-retiring, Del began a 9-year battle with Prostate cancer– living 5 years longer than the doctors predicted! When lymphoma came along, Del fought, not for himself, but to spend another day with those he loved, unfortunately, he lost that battle and went peacefully to heaven, where we believe he has been received with great rejoicing! Del said the night before he passed, “I’m ready to go Home.” He is home now.
Services celebrating the life of Del Rogers will be held at his final church home, Henly Baptist Church on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11am with food and fellowship to follow. Henly Baptist Church, 200 Henly Loop, Dripping Springs TX 78620
