Delores Marie Casey's Obituary
CASEY, DELORES MARIE LUNDEGARD BISCH made her transition peacefully on November 21, 2012 at Signature Place in Dallas, Texas. Delores was born to Herbert and Marie Lundegard at their home in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her determination and tenacity were born of being the youngest of five children and the only girl. Her four brothers all served in our Armed Forces in WWII. She was tough, strong, and played a mean game of baseball on the street of Stanford Avenue, but ice skating was her first love. Her skating career began in the St. Paul Pop Concerts, when she was recruited by an Ice Capades scout to join their tour all over the United States and Canada. In 1947, artist George Petty depicted Delores on the cover of the Ice Capades program in honor of her being selected as the prettiest girl in the Ice Capades. She later skated with the Dorothy Lewis Ice Show, which played in night clubs across the nation. Her favorite memory was “skating right by Clark Gable and Vivian Lee’s table.” While skating with Dorothy Lewis, she met her first husband, Phil Bisch, who ran Bisch & Son Funeral Home in Springfield, Illinois and was also a local sponsor of The Liberace Show. The Bisches and Liberace formed a strong friendship, and Delores was oftentimes captured by Liberace’s side in entertainment magazines. If there was a piano in the place, Delores belted the love ballads of the day. She was a gifted artist, and from the age of 14 she drew and painted with fashion as her subject, a reflection of her own incredible sense of style. Quite the seamstress, she designed and made everything from silk robes to lined corduroy coats and was a stickler for details. A talented golfer, she hit a hole in one at the St. Charles Country Club. In the 1960s, she met the love of her life, Robert F. Casey, a Representative in the Illinois Congress, to whom she was married for 43 years. Delores’ creative talents were expressed in home design, culinary arts, and entertaining. Delores was not only beautiful and talented but embodied a spiritual strength uncommon to most. She was kind, loving, compassionate to all and devoted to God, her husband, and her family. Delores is survived by her three children, Phyllis Bisch Marwill, Derek Bisch, and Charles Bisch; and grandchildren, Shannon Blount, Callan Blount Fleming, Camela Bisch, Michael Bisch, D.J. Bisch, and Alana Bisch. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who assisted her at the Signature Place in Dallas, Texas. There will be a small family celebration of her life at a later date.
