Delores May Yates' Obituary
Dolores May Yates, born May 19, 1925, went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2018. She was born, adopted, and grew up in Detroit, but moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1948, to work in a photography studio. In 1949, she visited Austin and, in a chance encounter, met James W. Yates. They married in September of ’49, and moved to the Dallas area in 1956, after having their two sons. Their daughter was born in Dallas. Dolores (Dee) was a fixture in the Richardson community serving on many women’s clubs and civic committees. She was a recognized leader in the National Extension Homemakers, a part of the U.S. Agricultural Extension Service. She was a partner with James in the Yates Prescription Pharmacy in Dallas until he became the head pharmacist at Sun Rexall Drugstore in Richardson. Dee attended Spring Valley Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was a vital part of women’s ministry groups and the quilting club. In her life-story, which she compiled in 2012, she writes, “No one could have predicted how the life of that little blond girl in the orphanage would have turned out. I am grateful to my parents who picked me out. I am grateful to have lived through the great depression and through World War II. I am grateful for a loving husband of 56 years. I am grateful to God for giving me a life full of opportunities and blessings. Remember no one knows how your life is going to turn out. You must make good decisions and always love each other.” Dee is preceded in death by her husband James, and her son Richard. She is survived by son Keith (and Linda), daughter Susan (and John), daughter-in-law Debbie, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 ant her celebration of life will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in the Restland Memorial Chapel.
