Delpha Mae Lard's Obituary
LARD, DELPHA MAE Born March 7, 1918 in Iredell, TX and passed away January 17, 2012 in Granbury, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Hugh David and Laura Bingham Blair; brother, Wyman Dean Blair; and sister, Mildred Irene Blair. Delpha attended business school in Wichita Falls, then went to work as a secretary for Lone Star Tool Company. She married Howard Smith Lard on June 30, 1938 and were married for 68 years until his death May 23, 2006. At the beginning of WW II they were transferred to Ft. Worth and lived there until 1946. After the war, they returned to Wichita Falls but were transferred to Dallas by International Harvester. They became members of Park Cities Baptist Church in 1948 where they both were very active. She served many times as class president of several sunday school classes. She and Howard sang in the adult choir for many years. She organized the Variety Book Club in 1966 which continues still today. She loved playing bridge with her friends and working her crossword puzzles. After living in Dallas for 57 years, they moved to Granbury, TX in 2005 to be close to their daughter. Delpha is survived by daughter, Janis Kay Avery and husband T.H. III,Patillo, TX; grandchildren, Troy Howard Avery and wife Monica, Granbury, TX, Laura Kay Avery Gundersen and husband Eric, The Woodlands, TX; and great grandchildren, Jessica and Lila Gundersen. The family wishes to thank Magnolia Court in Granbury, Trinity Mission in Granbury, and Freedom Hospice (Glenda, Dorsey, Janeece) for the wonderful care given to Delpha the last few days of her life. Graveside service will be at 11:00am, Saturday, January 21st at Restland Memorial Park with visitation at 10:30am at graveside.
