Mrs. Delphia Session Sanders' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Delphia Session Sanders
March 9, 1926 – September 11, 2024
Delphia Sanders, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and community leader, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on March 9, 1926, in Woodville, Texas to Hattie Deaton and Oliver Session. Delphia lived a life devoted to her faith, family, and community service.
Delphia touched countless hearts with her kindness and generosity throughout her life. She opened her home to many relatives to stay during their times of need, welcoming them warmly. They became part of her immediate family, embraced by her gracious spirit.
Delphia was raised in Laneville, Texas and attended the local school with her two sisters and brother: Ruth Jones, Martha Marsh and T.C. Session. She continued her education at Richland College in Dallas. After her move to Dallas, she met and married Milton C. Sanders in 1949. They had a beautiful family before his passing in 1987.
Delphia was the proud mother of three children: Marjorie Craft (Robert), Diedra Y. Bullard, and Yolande T. Sanders. Her family expanded with the addition of her grandchildren, including Craig Craft (deceased), Catrina Craft-Jenkins, Clinton Gray, Sheldon Croomes, Tyrone Sanders, and Aaron Reece. Her great-grandchildren, Diarra Gray, Sydney Croomes, Faith Smith, and JaLaurian Morris were the joy of her later years.
Delphia’s faith played a central role in her life. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of the Laneville Church. When she moved to Dallas, she joined and served in various ministries at the Canada Drive Christian Church. After she moved to the Hamilton Park community, she joined Hamilton Park United Methodist Church where she was an active and dedicated member for 66 years until her health declined. Her service to the Altar and Flower Guild, Usher Board, Food Pantry, Mature Adult ministry and Discipleship Classes were just a few of the many ways she served others.
Delphia and Milton were pioneers in the Hamilton Park Community having moved there in 1957. They were owner/operators of Sanders Employment Service for Building and Homecare. Delphia also dedicated time to civic and community organizations including the Hamilton Park Civic League, AARP, PTA’s and the Golden Cup Garden Club (she served multiple terms as president). She faithfully collected funds and coordinated food service for bereaved families in her community and loved volunteering with senior citizens and helping people in need.
Delphia enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—such as gardening, flower arranging, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends. She had a passion for travel, exploring the U.S., Hawaii, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Canada during her lifetime. Those who knew her will fondly remember her for her unwavering faith, her love for purple, and her gentle smile.
Delphia is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, a nephew, extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Delphia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, and a Grandson.
