Demetra Athens' Obituary
Athens, Demetra, Dracopoulos, age 95, of Heath, Texas passed away peacefully on 12/20/2011 at home. She was born on 12/31/1915 in Perivolia, Megalopolis, Greece to her parents, Zacharias Dracopoulos and Dina Dracopoulos. Demetra was the oldest of 3. She married George Athens in Portland, Maine in February 1946. They had 6 children. After they married, Demetra and George moved their family to Grand Prairie in 1949 where they began a 40-year career in the food service business with their company, Athens Food Service. In 1976 they moved to Heath, Texas where they lived until their death. Demetra was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Demetra was preceded in death by husband, George Athens and son, Chris Athens. She will be remembered by her loving family, including 5 sons, Lenny Athens and wife, Tudie, Zack Athens and wife, Jeanie, John Athens and wife, Bonnie, Nick Athens, Paul Athens and wife, Melissa. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kris Ann Clift and husband, George, Lynn Ann Wilson and husband, Scott, Angela Parks and husband, Shon, Allison Hall and husband, Sean, Michael Athens, George Athens, Paul Athens, Jr., Chris Athens and wife, Brenna, Samantha Athens, Amber Athens, and 4 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Clift, Zachary Clift, Paloma Athens and Isabel Hall. She is also survived by her brother, John Dracopoulos and wife, Lilly; sister Stella Benaquis as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation for Demetra at 6:00pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 13555 Hillcrest Rd. Dallas, Texas 75240. Services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 22, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. May her memory be eternal.
