Dennis Augustus Bebak's Obituary
BEBAK, DENNIS AUGUSTUS born July 5, 1948 in Buffalo, NY and passed away June 7, 2014 in Japan. How do you memorialize someone like Dennis Bebak? A man who loved God, family and country. A man who had a unique gift for making others feel special. He recognized and accentuated the best in each of us. He made us laugh all the time… at him, at ourselves, at each other, at situations and sometimes we laughed just because he was laughing. He found, and showed us, humor in almost everything. He was a big man with an arm span of 6 feet, which was great for hugs; he could wrap you up and he did that often… to all of us! He was gentle and slow-moving – deliberately so – he was NEVER in a hurry, much to the irritation of most of us (he always stopped to clean his glasses before he and Peggy left the house no matter how late they might be). Even when everyone else was hurrying around, Den was calm, and our best efforts to speed him up would fail miserably. He was also deliberate and detailed in his actions like cooking, watering the plants, building or remodeling and even eating. It was as if he was trying to slow us down to enjoy this life more. He marched to the beat of his own drum, but others would fall in line with him… just to be with him and to be a part of what he was doing. He drew others to him because he made you feel special, but really… he was the special one. He loved, nurtured and cared for each of us in just the way we needed. He was the doting husband, the proud father, the side-kick brother, the favorite uncle, the bigger-than-life “Gramps,” loving son and faithful friend. Den served his country by serving two terms in Vietnam with the US Air Force. He recently reconnected with a group of men who served together and was looking forward to their next reunion. Den worked for Mitsubishi Electric Automation for 31 years. Den’s Mitsubishi friends are like family. We want to express immense gratitude for their support, their relentless drive and countless hours spent to bring Den home quickly under such difficult situations, all the time grieving themselves. We will remember you always for your kindness shown to us and your love for Den. Den was married to Peggy Parker Bebak for 43 years this July 3rd. Their son Eric has always been their greatest joy and achievement in this life. Eric lives in Colorado with his wife, Ashlee Wallace Bebak and their two beautiful children, Cooper (11) and Emery (8). Den’s brother, Fran Bebak and sister, Nancy Bebak Shipkey live in Buffalo, New York, where they and Den were born and raised by their loving parents, August and Anne Marie Bebak. Den’s passing is mourned by a multitude of family members and friends. He was a special man. There will never be another one like him. Heaven is a little brighter now and we’re sure he’s slowing down the pace a little and keeping a smile on everyone’s face. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 16, 2014 at Trinity Bible Church in Richardson, TX.
