Derek Richard Schiefer's Obituary
Derek Richard Schiefer's life was always full of surprises. He made a sudden and joyous trip to his heavenly home on November 10, 2023. This final journey has left his many friends and family in shock and disbelief, but the Lord Jesus wanted to bring more mischief and fun through the pearly gates.
Derek was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 8, 1987. Through his childhood, he had many adventures living in Phoenix, Arizona; Walnut Creek, California; and finally Marietta, Georgia. He kept his teachers on their toes at Faith Lutheran in Marietta, where he was confirmed, and went on to graduate from Lassiter High School, with a no contest class superlative win of "Wittiest of 2006." He attended Abraham Baldwin University in Tifton, Georgia and graduated from Georgia Southern in 2011. He participated in many sports growing up, including baseball, swimming, track, wrestling, diving, golf, and football. He was a proud employee of Publix as a teenager, creating an endless need to stop for a Pub Sub whenever in the vicinity out east.
After college, Derek reluctantly left Georgia for a job in Dallas, Texas, at McAfee. His outgoing personality in the office created countless treasured friendships, including meeting the love of his life, Meghan. Derek was currently employed at Crowdstrike in Dallas, where he will always be remembered for the genuine relationships that he built with his coworkers and customers. Derek never met a stranger and was the life of any gathering, connecting through compassionate personal acts and still able to create nonstop laughter through clever and comical banter.
The void left will be felt by many. He leaves his parents Ann Schiefer (Miller) and Dan Miller, Jim (Edie) Schiefer, his sisters Shelby Schiefer, Grace Miller, Amanda Elmore (Jordan) and brother Craig Miller (Kat). His Uncles and Aunts in Michigan: Eric, Gregory, Jon (Liza), and Loren Gulliver, Gary (Diane) Schiefer and Bonnie (Steve) Bell; in Dallas he leaves fiancé Meghan Niski and beloved Weimaraner Murphy.
Derek loved and lived life to the fullest. In his memory, if you see a homeless person, talk to them, bring them soap, clothes, or food, as Derek took an active interest for those in need. In lieu of flowers, Derek's friends have created The Derek Schiefer Scholarship at Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro, Georgia. We ask that commemoratives be shared there to keep his memory alive. While the scholarship is being finalized, you can contribute to it through GoFundMe. https://www.gofundme.com/f/xvgjnd-derek-schiefer-fund
