Dewey Johnston's Obituary
Dewey Douglas Johnston, 93, of Dallas, Texas died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Plano. He was born June 18, 1921 in the Williams Community near Jacksonville in Calhoun County, Alabama to Zebbie Arvin and Emily Elizabeth (Burgess) Johnston. He was a 1939 graduate of Jacksonville High School. Dewey “Red” Johnston was a member of “The Greatest Generation”. Enlisting in the Army Air Corp early in WWII he served with the 559 Armament Group in England and France. After the war he attended Alabama Polytechnic (now Auburn University) where he was on the Dean’s list and member of Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society. This education led him to a career with American Cyanamid which lasted over 25 years. He married Mabel E. Jones of Danville, Kentucky April 5, 1957. After initially living/working in Santa Monica California, they moved to Dallas Texas in 1968 where “Red” became regional manager for Cyanamid. They were members of Park Cities Baptist Church Dallas Texas. Mr. Johnston is survived by his sister, Jean Cambron (husband Charles) of Gadsden, Alabama and many nieces and nephews who held him in highest esteem. He is preceded in death by his parents; Mabel – his wife of 55 years; sisters, Louise Green, Hannah McGee, Sadie Taylor, Opal Taylor, Shirley Mize; and brothers, Knox, Curtis, and William Johnston.
