Dewey Wayne Van's Obituary
Dewey Wayne Van, aged 94, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024. Born on February 20, 1930, in Hollis, Oklahoma, Dewey lived a life of service, dedication, and unwavering kindness.
Dewey proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952, a period that shaped his character and commitment to duty. After his service, Dewey dedicated 40 years of his professional life to Sherwin Williams, where he was a respected and beloved colleague. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who had the privilege of working with him.
On December 5, 1949, Dewey married the love of his life, Faye Harris. They shared a beautiful marriage that spanned 71 years until Faye’s passing. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and commitment.
A devout and godly man, Dewey was known for his tender heart and kindness. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was deeply committed to his faith. Dewey’s compassion and willingness to do anything for others left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Dewey was preceded in death by his loving wife, Faye Van; his daughter, Brenda Barnes; and his siblings, Viola McKinley, Jessie Randoph, Jackie Gunter, Lori Price, Christine Bloodworth, Jay Van, and Raymond Van. He is survived by his daughter Linda Powell and her husband Vic Powell; his son-in-law Richard Barnes; his grandchildren Angi Young, Jason Powell, Josh Powell, and Adam Barnes, and their spouses. Dewey was also a proud great-grandfather to a total of 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandfather to one great-great-grandchild, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his sister Rose Olds, the last of his siblings.
Dewey’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on in their hearts forever.
A memorial service to celebrate Dewey’s life will be held on Friday, May 31, at 2:00 PM at the Restland Event Center, where his spirit will be honored and remembered by those who loved him most.
Rest in peace, Dewey. Your gentle spirit and loving heart will never be forgotten.
