Diana Georgette Hunter's Obituary
Diana Georgette Metzler Hunter. Born July 23, 1934, in New York City. Passed November 23rd, 2024, in Plano, Texas
Diana Georgette Hunter was a longtime resident in Dallas and Carrollton. She was third generation circus performer following her parents, grandparents, and aunt. Her mother performed in a Triple Trapeze Act with Ringling Bros Circus. Her father was an acrobat and slackwire walker in vaudeville and across France.
Diana began performing as an assistant for dog and pony acts while traveling nationwide. Her primary act was then the high trapeze and swinging ladder, at venues across all 48 mainland states. These included circuses, carnival, performance halls and military bases.
After her father's death, she and her mother stayed in Dallas where she began work at age 15. Diana worked in retail all her working life, into her 80's.
After her youngest child, Janet went off to college, she bought an Irish Setter for show competition, becoming greatly involved in the world of dog shows. She successfully trained and handled three setters herself, achieving many championships. Due to her age, the fourth dog was handled by Rebecca Gear. She was very proud of her dogs, champions in both confirmation and obedience, competing across the US and into Canada.
Diana was a long time Member of the Irish Setter Club of Greater Dallas. She became the club Secretary, Vice President and President. Also, an active member of the Irish Club of Texas and Irish Setter Club of America.
Diana is survived by her daughter Janet Hunter, her son James W. (Bill) Hunter Jr., and daughter-in-law Anne Hunter. She is also survived by her grandchildren Katy Hunter, Kristin Hunter, Sarah Horton, and Graham Hunter, and her great-grandchildren Paislei and Everly Hunter, Paxton and Knox Horton. Her nephews Jimmy Chiles, Stephen Chiles, Pat Chiles, Howard Templin, and David Templin, and her niece Cindy Roberts.
