She graduated from Trumann High School as salutatorian and went on to attend Arkansas State University. She was in the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi and held the position of treasurer. After graduation she taught school in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma before moving to Texas in 1966. She then started her master’s program but her studies were “interrupted” by the birth of her only child, Jane Alison. She finally received her master’s degree in Business Education from North Texas State University in 1975. Diane taught business subjects at Richardson High School for 21 years. She was an active member in the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority for women educators. She married Bill Karnes in 1976 and moved to Plano in 1977 after retiring from teaching after 30 years in 1990. She especially loved the girls’ birthday bunch group she was a part of. She always looked forward to their lunches together. Diane loved gardening and especially flowers. Her other passion was antique shopping. More than anything she loved being a mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and was very proud of them. Diane left us peacefully on March 2, 2016 to be with her lord and Savior after suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.
