Dimitrios Guiatas' Obituary
Dimitrios “Dimitri” Guiatas, 27, manager of Zorba’s Greek Cafe in Plano, died Tuesday in an automobile accident in Dallas. A prayer service in his memory will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, 75240. An outgoing young man with a warm sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and a comforting manner, Dimitri was born in Fort Worth August 11, 1981. He attended Benbrook Elementary, Azle Middle School, and graduated from Azle High in 1999. He grew up attending both St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Worth and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox in Dallas. Dimitri dreamed of opening his own gym. A physical-fitness buff, he worked out at Gold’s Gym on Park and Plano and was an avid runner. He took classes at The Cooper Clinic with the goal of becoming a personal trainer. He had begun to sketch plans and create architectural models for the small gym he some day hoped to own and manage. For Dimitri, family came first. Since 2002 he had worked with his father, who owns Zorba’s Cafe. Dimitri was bilingual in Greek and English and spent the summer of 2005 in Greece visiting his extended family. Beloved Son of Pavlos (Sally) Guiatas, Cynthia (Carlos) Lopez. Dear Brother of Dr. Loria Guiatas and Alonzo (Vanessa) Enriquez. Loving Grandson of Loria Giatas and Hilario and Rose Velasquez. Dear Nephew of Dimitrios (Deanna) Giatas, Larry Velasquez III (Delia), Vicky Velasquez (Robert), Laura Castillo (Gabriel). Loving Cousin of Yoanna and Pavlos Giatas. Beloved Uncle of Jordan, Jenna, Ryan and Alex and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dimitri will be remembered by family and friends as a happy, upbeat fellow who greeted everyone with a warm hug, never held a grudge, and brought laughter to his surroundings.
