Dollie Mae Culp's Obituary
Dollie Culp was born in Palestine, TX Oct. 13, 1926 to James and Stella Thomas. She passed away August 10, 2016 in Dallas, TX. They and her siblings preceded her in death. One niece and two nephews survive her. She attended Palestine Schools, Baylor University and Southwestern Seminary. She joined First Baptist Church, Dallas in 1956 –the same year she was elected Texas GA Director, part of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Dollie worked in several positions at the Convention and retired in 1989. God kept using her in four different careers until she retired in July, 2007. One special assignment she was given was to write a work/study program for university students and supervise them at a village hotel in the Swiss Alps owned by Ron and Patricia Owens. Students came from various countries. One semester, there were 27 students from 11 nations following the Billy Graham Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland. While here, she was able to visit with Francis and Edith Schaffer on several occasions. Dollie was a teacher, communicator and caregiver. Not having family, she was able to visit those who needed her and her Lord. When she was in her late 60’s, a little girl named Hayden, who was seven months old, came into her life. She spent much time with her. To Hayden, she became known as “Da.” Dollie loved God, life, her church and Dallas Baptist University. Today, rejoice with her that she is finally home. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 19, 2016 at First Baptist Church Dallas, 1707 San Jacinto St, Dallas, Texas 75201.
