Dollie Mae Petty's Obituary
PETTY, DOLLIE MAE passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2014. Dollie is survived by her daughter, Cindy Conner and husband, Steve of Farmers Branch, Texas, and her son, Randy Petty and wife, Debbie of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Steve, Damon and Caty Conner, Tiffanie Petty Bannon, and Michael Petty, and her five great-grandchildren, Makayla and Kirsten Chaney, Alexis Conner, and Cameron and Brody Conner, all of whom she loved with all her heart. Dollie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hughes Petty. There may be no prouder wife, mom, grandmother, or great-grandmother than Dollie was. Her family gave her great joy. Dollie Mae McKay was born in Dallas, Texas on August 25, 1923. An only child, she was very precious to her parents, Harry and Mae McKay. She graduated from North Dallas High School, where she met and was a classmate of her future husband, Hughes Petty. Dollie and Hughes married in Dallas on October 23, 1942, and had been married for sixty-three years at the time of Hughes’ passing. Dollie and Hughes enjoyed playing Bridge and Dominoes with family, clubs, and church social groups whenever the opportunity arose. They were also known to enjoy a few hands of Gin Rummy between just the two of them nearly every evening before retiring to sleep. Not having any siblings of her own, Dollie loved all her cousins, and the brothers- and sisters-in-law she gained through Hughes’ family. They became her extended family, and they and their children were very important to her. Dollie also loved pets dearly, especially dogs. Missy, Georgie-Girl, Cassie, Brandy, Maggie, and Coco were like family members to Dollie and Hughes. Dollie was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, whether they were winning or losing. Dollie worked in bookkeeping, office management, and property management before becoming a successful Realtor. She began her real estate career with Ebby Halliday and then was with Remax for the rest of her career until her retirement in 1998. While working in real estate, she and Hughes often bought properties and used Hughes’ talent in home repair and renovation and her talent for decorating to fix up homes, enjoy them for a time, and then sell them to start on yet another project. Dollie and Hughes were great partners as remodeling contractors, just as they were in all aspects of their life. Dollie was a member of the Farmers Branch Church of Christ, and she and Hughes were active in bible study and small groups. Dollie was blessed with excellent health all her life until the past year when her health declined rapidly. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of The Madison on Marsh and Elysian Hospice for their wonderful care during Dollie’s last months. A memorial service will be held at Farmers Branch Church of Christ, 3035 Valley View Lane, Dallas, TX 75234 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2014 under the direction of Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Those wishing to send flowers may have them delivered to Restland in advance of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dollie’s memory may be made to Farmers Branch Church of Christ, or Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center, 3727 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, TX 75234, or SPCA of Texas, 2400 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, TX 75212.
