Dolores Hazel Lutz's Obituary
Dolores Hazel Lutz of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2024, at the age of 98. Born in Fairmount, Minnesota on January 20, 1926, to parents Velma and William C. “Billy” Witt, Dolores led an abundant life. Music was a passion for Dolores, having started a short-lived career as a toddler singing popular songs while sitting on the piano at the Fairmont American Legion. Later, she endeavored to learn percussion using a snare drum obtained from her uncle, himself a drummer in the Spanish American War. During WWII, Dolores attended Milwaukee Downer College, studying Biology with the intent to become a teacher. At the age of 20, however, and with her parent’s consent, she left school to marry her high school sweetheart, Willis “Bill” Lutz. Dolores and Bill eventually moved to St. Paul and lived in a small apartment above a delicatessen. On the weekends, they would travel back to Fairmont to help at her mother’s diner, the Cat and Fiddle. To add to the family income, Dolores also worked for the IRS for a short time. In 1952, Dolores became a full-time mother and settled down into the routine of being a housewife. After a family move to Dallas in 1966, she continued to pursue art as a hobby, often through crotchet projects. Eventually, Dolores rejoined the workforce as the head of front office operations at the newly acquired family business, Gibbs Printing Company in downtown Dallas. Later, in full retirement, Dolores enjoyed her time with Bill until his passing. Soon after, she decided to let others do the cooking and cleaning, so Dolores sold her house of 50 years and moved to Appletree Court Assisted Living in Richardson, where she made wonderful friends and received excellent care through her last days. Dolores is predeceased by her parents, William C. and Velma Witt, her husband Willis J. Lutz, and her daughter, Linda Ann Lutz Kyprios. She is survived by her son, Douglas J. Lutz (Elizabeth) of Newport News, Virginia, son in law and primary care provider, Petros Kyprios of Plano, Texas, grandchildren Dr. Evan Kyprios, Apostolos Mark Kyprios, Nora Lutz (Andrea), and Dr. Emma Lutz Gibbings (Jonathan) as well as great-granddaughter Mabel Gibbings. Interment will be at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. The family offers a special thanks to the caregivers at Appletree Court, the ministers of Zion Lutheran Church, and Holding Hands Hospice.
