Don Rhu Pitts' Obituary
Don Rhu McCarthy Pitts was born on August 22, 1937, to R.A. (BOB) McCarthy and Bess Butler McCarthy in Oklahoma City, OK, and passed on October 22, 2025 in Dallas, TX.
Don and her family moved to Dallas 1940, where she was a graduate of Hillcrest High School's Fabulous class of ’55. She then attended the University of Oklahoma (she was an avid Boomer Sooner Fan!), then graduated in the second class of the Dental Hygiene from Baylor Dental College of ’58. She worked in Shreveport Louisiana for a couple of years, then moved to Oklahoma City and worked for 35 years. She was active in establishing professional organizations at local, state & national levels. Don was devoted to the dental health of patients and the success of the ethical practice of Dental Hygiene and Dentistry for 50 years.
Dallas became home again in 1994, where she retired from dental hygiene in 2007. Don enjoyed retirement and activities. Her passion with her faith led her to Stephen Ministry.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Robbie Pitts, and many family members and friends. She lovingly and gladly filled the role of mother and grammy to others. She had many names: The Mama, Momma Don, Grammy Don, Aunt Don, Momma Bear, CUZ and Sassy.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, her favorite Bluebonnets, her fur babies, Texas Rangers especially (Nolan Ryan) and anything OU! Being with family, chosen family and friends was her joy.
Her love for music included Jazz and instrumental. She played the Marimba for many years. The louder the music, the happier she was.
We will miss her and her great sense of humor.
