Donald Lee Arms' Obituary
Donald Lee Arms, was born on January 1, 1931, in McKinney, Texas. He was the 2nd of 3 sons born to Ernest & Cleo Arms. Don's family later moved to California, where Don attended High School in San Francisco. Don and his family later returned to Texas and lived in Grand Prairie, where he met and married Mary L. Baker in 1951. Don enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean war for two years. After his Honorable discharge from the Army, Don and Mary had three children, Randy, Mickey, and Mark. Don loved to take the family on vacations to Colorado and even attended night school here in Texas to become a machinist. He actually got a job in Colorado and the family started plans to moved to Colorado; however, the Lord had other plans for Don and his family so they stayed in Grand Prairie. Don continued to work and retired from General Motors Corporation after 30 years of employment. After his retirement, Don enjoyed buying and selling used vehicles, as well as small utility trailers, doing landscaping jobs and oil painting. Don was always very active and loved to walk, even up to the last day of his life here on earth. Don and Mary attended First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie where Don was a Deacon. They later purchased 7 acres in Athens, Texas where they retired after selling their home in Grand Prairie. Don volunteered at the Henderson County Food Bank as well as the Labor of Love Charity. Don continued to serve the Lord while they attended First United Methodist Church in Athens. Don had the ability to quickly count numbers in his head without the use of a calculator and thoroughly enjoyed Sudoku. After Mary's death four years ago, Don lived closer to his children in the Midlothian and Grand Prairie area. At the age of 90 years old, Don went to bed one night but woke in the arms of the Lord on July 29, 2021.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; his 2 brothers, Charles Arms and James Arms, as well as his beloved wife of 65 years.
Don is survived by his 3 children, Randy Arms (Diane); Mickey Arms Branum (Rusty) and Mark Arms. Don was blessed with 5 grandchildren; Stacy Branscum, Chad Branum, Kate Benton, Jessica Hollingsworth and Lyndsey Williams. As well as 9 great grandchildren.
