Donald Royse Iglehart's Obituary
Don was born August 24, 1921 in Munising, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Superior. He died December 18, 2021 at his home in Dallas. When he was 11 years old, the great depression caused his family’s business to close, forcing them to relocate to Dallas.
Don graduated from Highland Park High School and SMU, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. In 1941 he married his college sweetheart, Dorothy Davis. After graduation from SMU Don joined the Navy and served as an officer on a minesweeper for 2 years in the Pacific during World War II.
After the War ended, Don resigned from the Navy and moved to Austin with his wife and daughter, Rebecca, (Becky) to attend the University of Texas, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Don spent the next 30 years in production management with Procter & Gamble, in Dallas, Mexico City, and Portsmouth, Virginia. After retiring in 1978 he kept busy developing family property in Plano.
He was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, the Northwood Club, and the Dallas Country Club. He loved bass fishing and golfing with his friends until most of them had passed on or became disabled, and his own handicap had become so high that golf was no longer fun. He loved watching football, almost any team, especially the Cowboys. Don also took great pleasure in playing gin rummy with friends at Northwood, and his Monday and Tuesday luncheon groups at the Dallas Country Club.
Dorothy, his beloved wife for 67 years, predeceased him in 2010. He is survived by daughter Rebecca (Becky) Collins, her daughter, Amy Dodson and husband Dahlem, and their children Melissa, Meredith and Davis Dodson; also, by son Donald R. Iglehart, Jr., his wife Gay and their son Andrew; his sister Mary Lou Bookhout; and by his dear, beloved friend, Martha Carroll.
A private service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army
