Donald Duncan McFarland's Obituary
Donald Duncan McFarland, 77, passed away at home after a struggle with COPD and cancer. Don was born in Bunkie, Louisiana, July 29, 1940, the son of the late James Frank and Annie (Duncan) McFarland. He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Shirley (Gregston) McFarland. He graduated from C.E.Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1958 and attended Louisiana Tech University graduating in 1963 with a degree in accounting. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and was an active alumni throughout his life. He began his career in 1965 with Collins Radio which became Rockwell International. He enjoyed his work for over 35 years until his retirement and was proud to have earned his CPA. Donald was Commodore of the White Rock Sailing Club in Dallas when he and his wife, Shirley, met. He played tennis and was a passionate guitar player. He enjoyed computers, politics, movies, family genealogy research and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley (Gregston) McFarland; his son, Roderic McFarland and three granddaughters, Fallon McFarland, Murron McFarland and Kali MacKenzie. He is also survived by his brother, John McFarland and his wife Melissa of El Dorado, AR; sister, Marianne Eagleson and her husband, Bill of Cheshire, CT; as well as many nephews and nieces. There are no public services planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and /or the American Lung Association.
