Donald R. Porter's Obituary
Donald R. Porter went home to be with the Lord on October 29, 2020, at the age of 101. Donald was born in Cisco, Texas, on July 31, 1919. He came to Dallas before World War II and joined the First Baptist Church-Dallas, where he remained a member until his death. It was there that he met his wife, Sarah Frances Moore, to whom he was married for 62 years. He served in the Army Air Corps and, after the war, he went to work at Hillcrest State Bank, which became Texas Commerce Bank and is now Chase. His entire business career was spent at that bank where he retired as President in 1983.
Donald loved his family and his church. He and Frances served as Sunday School Superintendents and Chapel Choir sponsors. He was also on the Board of Deacons and was generous in his financing of scholarships for the church and educational activities. His other interests included the Lions Club and the Dallas Rose Club. He was an avid gardener, and his roses brightened many hospital rooms and dining tables. He and Frances enjoyed square dancing and traveling until her death in 2003.
Donald is survived by his son, Stephen C. Porter and wife Phyllis of Allen, daughter Joan Boutwell of Waco, and five grandchildren, Christopher Boutwell and wife Kasi, Jonathan Boutwell and wife Erica, Catherine Morgan and husband Brad, Hillary Huens and husband Chris, and Hester Porter, together with 8 great-grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by his friend, Marian Gauntt, and by the healthcare workers at Vitality Court-Texas Star and Care Plus, who took such good care of him.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 5.
