Donald Lavelle Roubadeaux's Obituary
On July 6th, Donald Lavelle Roubadeaux passed from this world after a gallant battle with ALS.Donald was born on April 25, 1928, to loving parents, Linus Lavelle Roubadeaux and Martha Pearl Day in Bloomington, Indiana.Always an illustrious student, Donald graduated high school early; as legend has it, his teacher encouraged his leaving by saying “Donald, I’ve taught you all that I know.”He went on to study at Purdue University where he obtained his masters in Electrical Engineering.On September 15, 1950, he married the love of his life—no, seriously: they met at ages 4 and 2—Mary Lou McClintock. They shared their lives together, raised four children, and proved that young love can last.Donald dedicated his life to the Armed Forces, serving as an Air Force engineer credited with developing technologies that have saved countless lives. Donald was recognized for his contributions, retiring with honors as a Colonel in the Air Force Reserves.In addition to his military service, Donald worked as an electrical engineer at E-Systems for twenty seven years, where he inspired those around him with his leadership and kind spirit.Beyond his career, to those who loved and knew him, he came to be known simply as Granddad.A trusted and thoughtful sage. One’s biggest champion. A rock in the tumultuous waters.Always there with advice and help with any mechanical issues. Your watch stopped ticking? Granddad could fix that. Something wrong with your car? He had a part in the garage.He was known for his voracious appetite for books, Big Band Music, and Circus Peanuts.He never failed to charm a room with a great joke or story.He was an exceptional golfer and bowler from his youth to his final days.In the end, he leaves this world a better place than he found it.He goes on to join his wife of sixty two years, his parents and siblings, Martha and Johnny. (They have a tee-time already set).He lives on in his children, Linda and David Foster, Rose and John Lodowski, Michael and Kay Roubadeaux, and Mark and Kellie Roubadeaux, along with eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.He will be missed but never forgotten.Visitation will be from 1:30 PM-2:30 PM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Cure ALS or your favorite charity.Funeral arrangements for Mr. Donald Lavelle Roubadeaux have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
