Donald Curtis Smith's Obituary
Donald Curtis Smith was born May 7, 1935, in Waco, Texas, and passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Don was the son of Frank Edwin Smith and Viola Bronstad Smith. Don married Maxine Worley and shared a wonderful 51 years of marriage with Maxine until her death in 2015. They had two children, Curt Smith and Sherry Smith Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine; his parents, Frank and Vi Smith; and his brother, Weldon Smith. He is survived by his son, Curt Smith of Austin; his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Thomas Bryant of Plano; his sister, Dorothy Smith Kneten of Austin; three wonderful grandchildren, Brandi Bryant Adams (Jake), Blake Bryant, and Katie Smith; and great-grandson, Henry Adams.
Don graduated from Highland Park High School in 1953, attended Luther College, and graduated with a BBA from Southern Methodist University. He served two years in the United States Army, spent four summers with the U.S. Forest Service as a firewatch lookout and firefighter, and enjoyed a career of more than forty years in sales and management in the industrial electrical business. He was a long-time member of Central Lutheran Church, where he served in multiple volunteer positions.
He lived almost his entire life in Dallas, spending his final years at Presbyterian Village North Retirement Community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blood Cancer United, formerly known as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org), in memory of Donald Smith. Leukemia prematurely claimed the life of Don’s beloved Maxine.
