Donald James Volding's Obituary
VOLDING, DONALD JAMES born on April 2, 1928 in Louise, Texas and died peacefully with his loving family by his side on January 6, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. Don grew up in Louise and played basketball in El Campo, TX. After high school graduation, he attended Texas A&M University where he played freshman football. After the gridiron season, Don turned to the hardwood in 1946-1948, two years of which were varsity. The draft caught Don in 1950, but he kept on with basketball and football in the Army at Ft. Polk in Louisiana and received awards in both sports. Don is survived by the love of his life, Frances Vasek. They were married on July 24, 1953 in Wharton, TX. He is survived by three daughters and one son. Residing in Dallas is daughter, Barbara and husband, Robert Sullivan, Linda and husband, David Fyffe, Catherine and husband, John Jones reside in Austin; son, Richard and wife, Andrea reside in Germany. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsay, Jessica and husband, Charleston, Ryan, Shannon, Sydney, and Chloe. He was a devout husband and father. Loves aside from his family included golf and music especially songs by Willy Nelson. The Service will be held at 3:00PM, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Restland Abbey Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Select or your favorite charity.
