Donald Mitchell Whitney Sr.'s Obituary
Passed away July 1st after a courageous battle with cancer. Proceeded in death by his father Harry Farmer Whitney, mother Marie Reid Whitney, twin brother Alfred Whitney, and younger brother William L. Whitney. Survived by his wife Judy and son Donald Mitchell Whitney, Jr. Don was born in Marietta, Georgia June 13, 1940. He attended Marietta public schools and graduated form the University of West Georgia in 1963. While attending West Georgia, he worked his way through college, receiving a National Defense Loan Scholarship, was elected President of the Student Body. He was elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Upon graduation from the University, Don enlisted in the Army under the Officer Candidate School program at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his service he returned to Marietta to work for the Lockheed-Georgia Company. After a short time with Lockheed, he accepted a position as a Logistic Engineer with Texas Instruments, Inc., in Dallas, Texas in 1967. He had a great passion for food. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends and took great pride in successfully trying new recipes and always knew the best places to have an enjoyable meal. He retired in 1996. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Thursday July 3, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service is scheduled for 4PM Monday July 7, 2008 The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Hillcrest 14115 Hillcrest Rd Dallas, TX 75254. Interment services will be in Mertzon, Texas at the family gravesite near the ranch. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the pipe organ fund at The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Dallas, Texas 75254-8622 or The Mitchell Depot Museum P.O.
