Donna Jean Kay's Obituary
Donna Jean Trull Kay, age 72, of Allen, Texas, was born on February 24, 1951, in Fort Polk, Louisiana, to James Gipson Trull and Mary Sammie Johnson Lemoine, and passed away on August 24, 2023, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.
She grew up in Leesville, Louisiana, and graduated from Leesville High School in 1969. She enjoyed her years at LHS performing as a majorette, playing the flute as 1st chair in the band, and competing in pageants - she was the 2nd runner up in the Miss Leesville Vernon Parish pageant. Following graduation, she studied at Northwestern University, later married her high school sweetheart, Gary Flynn Kay, and then moved to Dallas, Texas, where she raised her family and opened and ran a successful cleaning business for residential and real estate properties, and corporate complexes located in the Dallas area.
Donna was a happy, outgoing woman who never met a stranger. She was devoted to her family and took pride in her spiritual walk with God. Donna had the biggest heart, was witty and fun-loving, and was always looking for an opportunity to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was confident in what she stood for, was sensitive to other's needs, and was incredibly compassionate about sharing the gospel and her experience with Jesus Christ with anyone who would listen. She loved plants, flowers and nature. Above all, Donna loved spending time with her family, especially making memories with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed hanging out with friends and was affectionately known as "Granny" not only to her family but to her close friends as well. When you were around Donna, you were sure to feel love - and laughter was most definitely a guarantee.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Gipson Trull, mother, Mary Sammie Johnson Lemoine, her grandparents, Ben Luther Mount, Sr. and Birdie Emma Welch Mount, one sister, Nettie Emma Ross Baumgardner, three brothers, Jesse Thomas "J.T." Trull, Arthur Lee Trull, and Clifford Malloy Mount.
Survivors include her former spouse, Gary Flynn Kay, their two children, Donna Michelle Hernandez, husband Jorge Hernandez, and Michael Anthony Kay, fiancé Jessica Raimo, and six grandchildren - four granddaughters, Alyssa, Macie, Koven, and London, and two grandsons, Carson and Garrote. Donna is also survived by four sisters, Mary Ann Lemoine Mizell, Jeanette L. Hines, Birdie Emma Scutt, Mary Belle "Mitzie" Mount, and three brothers, Lawrence Joseph Lemoine, Jr., Larry Joseph Lemoine, and Ben Luther Mount Jr., and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather for visitation on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue in Dallas, TX.
