Donna Susan (Weaver) Haskins' Obituary
Donna Susan (Weaver) Haskins, age 70, peacefully passed away at her home in Mesquite, Texas on March 13, 2022 surrounded by her family at her side.
Donna was born on January 3, 1952 in Fort Benning, Georgia to OC Weaver, a proud member of the US Army, and her loving mother, Sara Sue Bass (Weaver). Donna was the first of four children for them. For the first part of Donna’s life and up through her teens, she moved with her family almost every year as her father was transferred from duty station to duty station. When she was younger, Donna and her sisters and brother would complain about having to move every year. However, as Donna got older, she realized what a gift it was to travel and meet new people and see new places.
In 1972 Donna met the love of her life, Roy Haskins, in Copperas Cove, Texas. She has been heard to say to her boys that “once your daddy had kissed me, buddy I had been kissed!” Within 6 months they married, and once again she was travelling to a new place, Jacksonville, Florida, where she would spend 21 years raising their 3 sons. She worked for several years at Baptist Hospital in the Emergency Room in Admissions, and the Jacksonville Police Department in the Homicide Division as a clerk typist. Within the first two weeks she was the preferred typist, and won the Employee of the Month award. Although she loved working, the desire of her heart was to be a “stay at home mom”, and luckily, she was able to do that. She often said, raising her sons was one of her biggest accomplishments and joy in life, as well as loving on her grandchildren and spending quality time with them.
As a “stay at home mom,” Donna loved cooking, sewing, working on crafts, scrapbooking, and spending endless hours on her and Roy’s family’s genealogy. Of course, as it pertained to her children, she was a willing taxi, teacher, organizer, and party planner. She was also a nurse, a diplomat, a lawyer, a disciplinary, a counselor, confidant, a friend, and a mother. She was a mother figure for many friends and families as she never met a stranger. She was a great listener and loved others unconditionally.
A convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, Donna was very involved in the church ministry and held numerous positions. She served faithfully in the primary and young women’s organization, relief society, cub scouts, and was a seminary teacher.
In 1994, Donna was diagnosed with breast cancer and valiantly fought to be cancer-free for many years. Sadly, in 2015, Donna was once again diagnosed with metastasized stage 4 breast cancer in her lower back. It was then she was told that statistically she only had 3 to 5 more years of life. The fighter that she was would not settle for this and she defied the odds and lived 8 years, determined to squeeze every last moment of joy and happiness she could get from this world spending it with her family and friends. On the afternoon of March 13th surrounded by her family, Donna once again became a traveler, only this time she was returning to our Heavenly Father and her parents and friends that had gone on before her.
She is survived by her unending and deep love for her husband Roy, by her passion for life and all things good. Due to her devotion to our Heavenly Father and our brother Jesus Christ, she fought her fearless battle twice with cancer, but always with a smile, for her understanding of the gospel gave her the peace and knowledge that we will be together again. Her Christ-like example in how she always tried to live her life, for the love she had for all of her friends and family, and finally for just being Donna Susan Weaver Haskins, you are loved and will be deeply missed by those whose lives you touched. You leave us for a short time but live within us always in our hearts. Donna is also survived by her husband, Roy Haskins; siblings, Pamela Reese, Richard Weaver (Diane), Karen Shelton (Brad); children, Jacob Michael Haskins (Myra), Christopher Haskins (Audrey), Steven Haskins (Tina); grandchildren - 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
