Doo Ri Kong's Obituary
Doo Ri Kong, 99, passed away most peacefully under the supermoon of August 02, 2023 in her family’s home. She was surrounded by her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who prayed over her spirit as she entered Heaven to reunite with her husband.
Doo Ri was born in Busan, South Korea as the second child of three sisters. She got married to Bong Kil Kong, and together, they raised three sons and one daughter. With their immediate family, they immigrated to America in 1981, living in California for two years before making their permanent home in Texas.
Planting her roots in the DFW metroplex, Doo Ri became a devoted mentor and honorable member of Korean Young Nak Church for most of her life. She officially earned her American citizenship and continued to raise her nine Korean-American grandchildren, instilling culture and faith in her teachings. Doo Ri was the most sacrificial woman; she dedicated her life to nurturing others: her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and by the end of her life, her fifteen great-grandchildren. Even in her free time, she was brought to most joy when she was singing hymns while cultivating her home garden, all to offer the fruits and vegetables of her labor to family and friends. It was her purpose, her passion, to serve others, and the love was happily returned.
Doo Ri was predeceased by her parents at an earlier age and her older sister at the age of 80.
She was also predeceased by her husband, Bong Kil Kong, who died due to lung cancer on November 18, 1998.
Doo Ri is survived by her younger sister, who still lives in South Korea, and her four children: Sang Soo Kong, Sang Yol Kong, Sang Koo Kong, Grace Kwon, and their spouses. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and their spouses: Ki Tae and Vansy Kong, Lisa and Yun Song Lee, Ann Jee and Mark Ku, Angel and Aiden Kim, Anthaney and Yuri Kong, Lauren and Sangwoo Lim, Kevin and Sorah Kong, Jasmine and Kyle Yan, Eugene and Jenna Kong. Through the fruitful prayers of Doo Ri, she is survived by fifteen great-grandchildren: Ryan and Chloe Lim; Carter Kong; Claire, Elena, and Nathanael Lee; Aiden and Brandon Kim; Natalie and Katherine Ku; Savannah and Riley Kong; Melody and MaKenzie Kong; Reign Kong.
The long life of Doo Ri Kong will be commemorated on August 08, 2023 at Restland where she will be buried and reunited with her husband. The family thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time. The community aches for the loss of such a strong and selfless woman, but Doo Ri Kong leaves a true legacy to remember her forever.
