Doris Demetra Chrones' Obituary
Daughter of Nick Chrones and Jewel Glanges, born on September 13, 1922 in Hillsboro, Texas. Doris attended Hockaday Jr. College and received awards in drama. She graduated from SMU majoring in speech and drama production. While at SMU, she received many awards, including the prestiges McCord Award. During the war, Doris produced and directed plays for the USO at army camps. Her greatest joy was directing plays for the Sunday school students of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where she was a member. Doris was the church’s first organist plus served as secretary for the building committee during the construction for the church at Swiss and Apple Street. She also was one of the first chairpersons of the Greek Bazaar-now known as the very popular Greek Festival. A special highlight in Doris’s life was serving as intepreter for Maria Callas and director Franco Zefirelli when Ms. Callas performed in Medea. Doris is survived by her sister, Eve Solomos, nephew and niece, Nick and Lisa Solomos; nieces, Mary Fallon, Suzanne Berry; great nieces, Erin, Meredith, Rachel, Taylor, Amanda, and Judy; nephews, Mason and Nicholas; also her godchildren, Dr. Victor Vlahakos and George Comits.
