Doris Merle Davis Sosnowski's Obituary
Doris Merle Davis Sosnowski went to be with Jesus on April 26, 2022, at the age of 83. Born August 15, 1938, she was the youngest child of Noah Schley and Gussie Merle Dielman Davis, who were founding members of Park Cities Baptist Church. Doris was delighted to have grown up with the unique honor of being the first baby born into the PCBC congregation! Throughout her life the church and her faith were
foundational and reflected in her worship, in the teaching of Sunday School, and in her numerous volunteer activities. One could always count on Doris to share fun and encouragement generously.
When she was only 6 years old her beloved father passed away unexpectedly and so her dear brothers Dick and Tie, who were 12 and 9 years older than she, stepped in to fill that fatherly role. Oh, what a job they did! She loved and admired them so and those feeling were quite mutual.
She attended Tarelton State University in Stephenville, TX and then Baylor University in Waco, TX and made wonderful lasting friendships at both. In November of 1961, while attending a football game at Baylor’s Floyd Casey stadium she met the love of her life, an air force navigator with a Polish last name and a great smile—which she says was the first thing she noticed about him. Just four months later, she and Walter Francis Sosnowski were married on February 10, 1962. They lived for many years in California, but ultimately had the pleasure of planting their lives and raising their kids in Doris’ hometown of Dallas. Their sons, Walt and Tie, graduated from Highland Park High School just like their mother!
Doris loved to read, dance, play the piano and be a part of a sing-along. This served her well as a Kindergarten teacher. She always insisted on having a piano in her classroom. Doris understood how good music is for mind and soul; it's no wonder that she was such a beloved teacher!
In her latter years, Doris gained a nickname she loved: “Happy”. Her eldest grandson was insightful enough to choose a nickname that perfectly captured his grandmother’s personality. Her greatest joys in life were her husband of 60 years, her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren and so many friends who she cherished. Showering them with love, care, laughter and joy, she enriched the lives of all whom she touched.
She will be greatly missed . . .
