A TIME TO BE BORN It all began in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 20, 1926, as Theodore and Gertie Brown celebrated the birth of their oldest child, Doris Mae Guice. A TIME TO PLANT Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her LORD and savior at an early age. She graduated from high school in New Orleans. In 1945 Doris, united in marriage with Joseph Fox. To this union three children were born-Dwana, Calvin, and Frederick. Doris was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oakland, California where she served as a youth director. She invested in the lives of young people for many years. Doris planted the seeds of love, kindness, and generosity in everyone that she met. She always touched people with the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. She measured life by how much she gave and encouraged others. A TIME TO SOW Doris worked as a procurement clerk for the federal government with exemplary service for over 30 years and served as president of a chapter of Toastmaster’s International in Oakland, California. A TIME TO LOVE Doris met and fell in love with JH Guice and they were united in marriage on September 30, 1978. With love for each other and their love of the LORD, they faithfully served together at the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Berkeley, California for many years. After moving to Garland, Texas , they united with the Mount Hebron Baptist Church in 2004. They dearly loved the “Mount” especially Pastor Leach and the Senior’s Ministry. Doris and JH were always together until the LORD called him home August 15, 2008. Often when she stayed in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, they attended The Servant House church where she was their beloved “Mother Guice.” A TIME TO DIE On Monday, February 17, 2014, Doris crossed over into eternity to rest in the arms of her heavenly father. Our Mom Dear Mom, When we reflect on our lives, no matter when or where-at every state of our lives, you were there. You were our biggest fan. We knew without a doubt that you were proud of us. Never a harsh word-just a kind gentle smile. There was love in everything you did to make our lives worthwhile. You were a blessing to our lives, a treasure like no other. You taught us by example. Your works were wise and warm.We found both hope and courage in your eyes. Your songs and laughter were a source of our joy. There was always kindess and compassion in your embrace. You taught us to walk with God. We could see the light of heaven shining in your face. We are grateful to God that he chose you to be our MOM. We will always feel your loving care in the deepest part of our grateful hearts. Now, your wonderful smile and spirit continues in the presence of your heavenly father. To God be the glory. We will always love you, Dwana, Calvin, Fred, Maurice Grand and Great-Grandchildren
