Doris Ruth Marshall's Obituary
Passed away March 31, 2009, peacefully at her home in Dallas. Born February 24, 1926, in Topeka, Kansas, daughter of Ruth and Howard Whitcomb. Graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka. Married Kenneth R. Marshall on September 28, 1945, and spent the next year in Coronado Island, Ca. where Ken was in the Navy and Doris worked in the Chaplin’s office. They returned to Manhattan, Ks. where she worked at Kansas State while Ken earned his engineering degree. They moved to Kansas City, Mo., and Cedar Rapids, Ia., before relocating to Richardson, Tx. in 1959 with Ken’s job at Collins Radio/Rockwell International. Doris was a library cataloger for 10 years at UTD before retiring. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church Richardson for 47 years, spending many hours volunteering at church and Network of Community Ministries. Following Ken’s death in 2005, she moved to Highland Springs retirement community in 2007. Doris had a beautiful smile, bright blue eyes, quick laugh, fun spirit and loving heart, making people feel special and valued for their uniqueness. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends camping and water skiing at Lake Texoma, Grand Lake and Beavers Bend State Park in Ok; square dancing with Ken as Texas Reelers; and traveling in Texas, to Phoenix to see Betty and Bob Stansbury, to Destin, national parks, London and other beautiful places. Preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband Ken and sister Bonnie Forshee (Topeka). Survived by son David Marshall (Richardson), wife Barbara and sons Andrew and John; daughter Nancy Del Regno (Dallas), husband Ken and daughter Katie; daughter Carol Marshall (Richardson); daughter Janet Marshall (Lewisville), partner Timi Morris and daughter Jessica Woods; her brother Lee Whitcomb (Topeka) and wife Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. Mary Norman; Ruby McKinney, home health aide; and caregivers at St. Michael’s Hospice, who helped during her last months of life. Memorial Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 3, at First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX, 75080. Flowers may be sent or gifts made in Doris Marshall’s name to People in Need Fund, both at the church.
