Doris Ann Smith Cox Hawk's Obituary
Doris Ann Smith Cox Hawk was born in Ft Worth TX March 5th, 1924 and passed away peacefully March 7th, 2019 in Dallas TX at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Eula Smith and her brother Horace Jr. who sacrificed his life for our country at Pearl Harbor during WWII. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years Clinton Hawk IL Doris graduated from Ft Worth Polytechnical HS. During WWII she worked for American Manufacturing as a lathe operator. After graduating from Secretarial and Business school she went to work for LTV as executive administrative assistant to Paul Thayer and worked there until her retirement. She and her husband moved to Washington DC as Mr. Thayer’s special executive assistant while he performed the duties of Deputy Secretary of Defense during the Reagan administration. Afterward, she and her husband moved back to Dallas to enjoy retirement. Doris loved animals and her poodle Trey who was her close companion. She leaves behind many close cousins and nieces including Margie, Marvin and Maggie Hall of Kilgore, Tx and Marjorie Lynne Tucker of Longview, TX. She is survived by several cherished friends, especially Betty Pettigrew who loved and cared for her for many years. Services will be held in the Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
