Dorothy Ann Barnett-Griffin's Obituary
age 43, of Lucas, Texas celebrated her homecoming with the Lord November 8, 2007 following complications that occurred while competing in the Florida Ironman in Panama City, Florida. Dorothy was born October 25, 1964 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and her nursing degree from University of Texas School of Nursing. Following the loss of her first husband, John Barnett, Dorothy dedicated her time, efforts and talent to the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center which provided support to her and her children. Dorothy met and married Mike Griffin in July of 2005. Together, they found a way to combine their love of exercise and triathlons with fundraising for the Journey of Hope. In addition to her generosity, Dorothy will be remembered for her gregarious nature, her ability to inspire and motivate others and her positive outlook on life. Dorothy is survived by her husband Mike and her five loving children Kim, Derek & Zachary Barnett and Heather & Ryan Griffin; parents Audrey and Carl Vandenberg; siblings, Trudy, Elaine, Leonard and Amy; John’s brother David and his wife Sara; 8 nieces and nephews as well as an abundance of friends and fellow triathletes. She will never be forgotten and may we all strive to live such a positive and selfless life. Services to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17th at First United Methodist Church of Plano. Mike and family have requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center (http://www.johgriefsupport.org/).
